Safety Moment
I’ve worked this year for many clients in the Oil & Gas sector, and one thing about this industry is the focus on safety. When you work around things that can explode, that is a good thing. Most meetings in the industry, even IT meetings, begin with a Safety Moment. I’d like to share one of my own.
Recently, I traveled to Florida with my wife and almost two-year old son to Florida. We went to visit and care for my in-laws. After meeting with them, we were about to get in the car for the ride back to the hotel, and I noticed that my son’s car seat was not firmly seated and secured. I took a few minutes to fix it, and we went on our way…until this happened:
Everyone was OK, but I was very thankful that I took the time to fix that car seat. Children need a car seat longer than you think – In most European countries, kids are required to use car seats right up until elementary school. Also, keep your car seat rear-facing just as long as you can – it helps avoid whiplash. Our pediatrician has had to treat children that didn’t survive crashes because their little necks couldn’t handle the forces applied. How horrible that must be for everyone. And also, hug your kids.
