In The Weeds

So, for those of you following at home, you know that I recently signed up for a seven-week online course from MIT. Well, I’m in the middle of that now and I realized that I’m not the typical client for this class, because I have a lot of catching up to do on the mathematics pre-requisites. I have a degree in History, with a minor in Political Science. I did well enough in math in high school, but only went as far as Calculus I in college. That was enough for a Liberal Arts degree, but not enough for this class. So, long story short, I’m learning a lot of math (or maths as they say in the UK)

Since this is not an introductory course, the faculty strongly recommends participants to have substantial background knowledge of statistical techniques and data calculations or quantitative methods of data research.

Parents note:

I asked my son, a recent graduate of UT Austin with a degree in Computer Science, for help. His response: I want you to try it on your own first, then let’s look at what you’ve got and I’ll help you from there…sometimes it’s funny when your words ricochet back on you…
